A New Lesson Learned: 100 Days Challenge Update

If you didn't know, I have been working on a project called the 100 Days Challenge. This challenge basically requires me to draw every day for 100 days straight. Seems easy, right? Wrong. In my previous update, you can see that I was struggling to record myself drawing--excuse me, I am struggling to record myself drawing. But I've encountered a new challenge: drawing every day!

Now, I know, I should have expected this to be one of the challenges but I honestly thought it wouldn't be so hard. What makes this so challenging? Finding time to draw every day. Between work, class, clients and my own mental health, it feels like there is never enough time to sit down and draw or even record myself doing it. As you can see from my Instagram, I clearly fell behind on my quota and missed a couple of drawing days. I started to fell about down because I felt like I had nothing to show. Even though I figured out how to draw on my phone, I was still falling behind.

"it's not just about having the perfect drawing

but, about drawing!"

But then I found hope.

During class, I meet with a classmate who was also drawing for her 100 Days Challenge. She showed me her Tumblr page where she posted everything she had drawn--I mean everything. She had drawings ranging from little doodles she did during class to professional drawings she used in her portfolio.

Then I realized: it's not just about having the perfect drawing, but about drawing!

This realization was the hope I needed to get me back on track. It helped me understand that I had it all wrong. I was so focused on having a drawing that was "original", "perfect" and good enough to show instead of a just drawing. I have been fulfilling the challenge because I do draw every day. I draw at work, in class and sometimes on the toilet. I know now that I just have to be bold enough to show my rough sketches even if I feel like they aren't Insta-worthy.

Above, you can see some of the sketches that I haven't posted to my Instagram. If you want to see more of my sketches feel free to check out my Instagram.
