A New Kind
of Invitation

Chef John Robinson has cooked alongside some of the industry's most respected names, and he was ready to build something entirely his own: private, curated culinary experiences in Dallas. People already understand what a private chef is, but they don't have an instant read on what makes it of it worth it. That was the real work here: defining that worth clearly, and building a brand flexible enough to grow with him as his offerings expand.

Chef John hosted us for one of his dinners. One course arrived on edible paper printed with my own artwork, the dessert built around it, colors and tones matched with real intention. That kind of devotion to the craft, designing a dish around a piece of art instead of the other way around, is what this brand needed to earn the right to represent.

Landing on the
Tastiest Direction

Funny Farm Agency brought me on to support this project, and from the start my focus was art direction. I developed the mood boards, and from there we each built out concepts.

The direction I brought forward was dark, seductive, and speakeasy inspired, built around one idea: booking a private chef is a little like sneaking away from your usual dinner plans. This was the concept Chef John chose to move forward with.

From there, Devon and I worked together to bring the full identity to life: a logo suite anchored by a pitchfork mark that winks at both mischief and appetite, a palette of deep reds and gilded gold pulled straight from color psychology's oldest trick, and a type system built for both elegance and legibility.

“I f*cking love it. Let's go”

What's Cooking Up Next

I'm continuing to support Chef John and Funny Farm Agency as we move the brand into its next touchpoints. We're considering a members only card to lean further into the speakeasy inspiration, helping refine his product offerings, and building out his website so he's set up for success no matter how the dining experience itself evolves.

What I'm proud of here is that we found room to be a little different, a little devilish, a brand that doesn't play it safe the way most fine dining branding does. It's given me space to explore a moodier, more adult, more playful register than most of my work.
